this is not flame and i don't mean to get on anyones case.

however, can any of you actually demonstrate and evidence that your not just a normal human.

a dna test for instance. transgender stuff is one thing but at least those people can point to an example of what they think they are.

as for the other people scanning you aura, maybe they re enforce there fantasy by creating a community of people who support their beliefs.

another small point when i was younger i had cool code names like 'blade' or 'fire leopard' and i'm a Live Roleplayer so i have character names (people i PRETEND to be 5 weekends a year), but i dont get these marvel style pseudonyms. anonymaty is one thing but why is every one trying to be a superhero.

like i said no offense just trying to understand.

cheers
John

Despite the name I am a girl (no I am not trans-sexual. I just like that name). I know already that I am more than human. My problem is that I don't know what I am. I am hoping that you can help me figure out what I really am. Gramercy.

by Billy on 2007-02-01
I'm not entirely sure if I am an Otherkin. Some people say they felt as if they brushed wings when they passed me. Also, my friend who is adept in reading aura's says he can see them, however, I know there are alot of people out there who claim to have something and do not. Occasionally I feel people nearby me, as it they touched me; yet this is not the case. In one such instance, I was standing at least a foot away from them. Also, I feel as if something wraps around me when I feel uneasy or as if something in the vacinity is not safe. If anyone has any advice or help for me please e-mail me at slayerbill@aim.com

I wasn't really expecting a reply but it's a shame that your all so close minded that you are not willing to consider the possibility that your just normal.

also it seems as if people seem more intersted in posting request for help rather than replies giving help.

Chill out and Look
by Laegreffon Damarius Laizare on 2004-09-14
Personally, I believe it is a shame that those who come here seeking answers and find out they are normal can't deal with the fact, and then have to take it out on us by finding flaws in our society. That is overly done and needs to stop.

If you can't deal with things, don't go looking. It's like Tom Clancy said in his book, Teeth of the Tiger= "If you're going to kick the tiger in his ass, be prepared to defend against his teeth."

It's your fault you came looking. It's your fault that you didn't like what you found.

And it may it's be Our fault that we are a little more disorganized than what we seem.

But it's not our fault that you're unhappy with yourself.

Learn to deal with it.

by Site Admin on 2003-12-23
(a) The majority of people claiming the otherkin lable *do* consider that they might be human. ("Normal" is a very subjective word).
(b) This isn't a support forum. There's plenty of those in existance (cf. the links section and the list of mailing lists), and anyone asking help here is generally redirected to such.

by Phoenixstar on 2004-01-17
It really just depends on who you ask. I am new to this myself, and I came here searching for help as well. I have never felt like i belonged here, I have always felt like I was born either at the wrong time, in the wrong place, or in the wrong form. Trust me, I have considered strongly that I am just a normal human. I wish I were one, but even if I am not 'Kin, then I am at most half-human in one way or another. I am so lonely among people, and I have no place among our society. i am a danger if I lose my temper because of my other sides. I can heal people, read thoughts and emotions, read the future, connect with the minds of others in manipulation of spacetime, wield energy that your average human can't even feel, let alone use, and I can talk to and manipulate crystal energy. Tell me, how many average humans do you know who have triple the normal power level? Or would most even believe you if you did? Most I know would ask me what i was smoking or ask if I was dealing with Lucifer. And I am definitely of the Light.
Most of us came to this site looking for a place where we can finally belong, or at least I did. So of course most of us are looking for help!

Strange? Why are you so quick to judge.I don't seem to understand why you don't what to understand. you don't seem to have read what the website had said about finding the anwser in YOURSELF! These people only want to understand what is going on themselves, not to be judged by others. You shouldn't judge those who you don't understand or what for that matter. People who nuture there otherkinly souls can unlock their memories and learn of their origin.

energy moving in air,water,sky see
aura's and after images of people
and anything they look at
just asking because i can I can
also see energy that looks like
massive symbols floating in the
air and whereever i look swirling
vortexes of energy and also feel
what other people are feeling.

Simple. You are empathic. So am I. I can sense people's thoughts and emotions. I am still in school, and I have had to leave class a few times because of this sense. The minds of so many humans have no discipline, and when their thoughts and emotions run wild, unchecked, it translates into physical pain for me. It hurts me to see what they think and feel. Do you feel the same?

Empathic
by AC on 2004-02-25
I have the same experience. I feel what others feel. I feel what actors in the movies feel. I feel what Characters in a book feel.

That feeling translates to anxiety and pain... and i need specific closure in order for it to go away.

One of my teachers told me I was empathic when I described this.

I've felt different from other people... too sensitive for the average joe. I've bottled up that sensitivity in an armor of macho, but it's all out now that my wife left.

I don't think I'm Otherkin. I don't know specifically what's going on. I just feel different from others... in ways that make me feel isolated and alone.

i can see energy simalr to what u described. somtimes i can see peoples auras but only if they are standing still. alot of the time i see the energies in the sky, water, snow ext. i ahd no idea others could see it. i thought it possiple but never thought id hear of another who can see them.

Psychics and other things
by Eric on 2004-11-25
everyone who is talking about auras that they can see is psychic because that is a psychic ability as far as i know. You can eventualy train yourselves to heal other people, but careful because you give away your own aura. I sort of see auras too.

Everyone who can feel others emotions has empathy as you know, but what you might not know is that some empaths can feel physical pain. Empathy is also a psychic ability. I have it too, but it's a little different from you guys. I can feel anothers physical pain and can sort of read the purity of someone's soul by looking at that person's face.

The person who talked about the symbols in the air and the energy vortex things.Your special and have some connection with nature although not sure how. I say write the symbols down because it might allow you to harness magick. I don't think it's psychic, but it's probably otherkinly. You might want to contact someone named Rialian he might be able to tell you.

This site is amazing! But i am also now confused about the outcome of being here. I found this site randomly (sorry about the random net surfing thing) but everything thats said has kinda made sense in a way, but not totally? okay, now im the one thats not making any sense. Basically, i think i might have some sort of connection to faerie. I often have dreams where this imagery is me, and because i write, i always write stories about fae and have my charcter woven into them somehow and something burns inside me when people tell me i look like a member of fae. I often find a total connection with nature, which no one understands and i constantly feel as though there is something missing, that i can somehow never reach.
But im confused! Is this all just concidence? Am i just seeking my identity? Any replies that could help would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

Well I have a question. I have suspected myself as difrent and always joked that I was not all human, as I tend well growl when upset or angry, walk on the balls of my feet, have the tendency to hear things that no one else could then find out its like an animal repeling device that puts out a high freqency noise, and so on. Also I would always swear I should have had ears atop my head as I always felt like they where there and droped back or raised swiving about. But I have never realy thought of myself as fae as in elf pixxy ext. would I still fit the catigroy of otherkin?

You sound like you have some kind of connection to a wolf or something. I can't say for sure, but I deal with the same things. I growl at people and I get an urge to bite, claw, tear them apart when I'm angry. I know I am connected to the wolves or wolf daemons, I just am not sure how. Likely you have a similar connection. This side of me is nearly impossible to lock down when something pisses it/me off. "He" is feral and aggressive. Mine has the feel of an alpha male. Dogs who have wolf DNA and those that already know me well obey me and give me their loyalty. Other dogs start growling aggressively or tuck their tails and try to hide behind whatever is nearest. Is it the same for you?

I came here with a lot of questions, but have not found the answers I was hoping to see. I was directed to this site because of a new class on the craft I've started. To make a long story short my teacher said I should look up otherkin on the net because she believed it was possible I was one. But what is otherkin? Not human? Okay, then what? Fairy? Elf? Dragon? Mythilogical creatures only? How about vampires? I have searched my whole life for immortality. I became obsessed and depressed when I came up empty-handed. I cried myself to sleep one night, begging for ANYTHING!!! Some sign. I am taking this class because it is the closest thing to real I have found. I just need guidance, and answers...maybe then the truth will be reviled.

Listen. I know sometimes what we are may seem a bit unbelievable. Sadly, this "proof" that you're looking for may not be out there. But if you're here, I'm guessing you can feel that we exist. That should be enough for you. I'm not asking you to follow everything that people say on the net, because we all know that there is so much ignorance about us being spread on the net. However, I am asking you to trust yourself.

This will probably soud like a very stupid question, but are Furries considered Otherkin? More specifically, (I think) I mean people who believe themselves to be animals, born into the wrong (human) body, obviously not just furry fans. I'd be simply delighted if someone could answer this for me. Thank you!

people can have more than one last and first name, there are 6 billion people in the world

by Callan on 2003-10-12
To begin with, you make an interesting claim, and it is supported by the mythos of many different cultures.

However, I am curious as to the basic concept of a soul. How do you define it? If it is possible for the soul of a different being to inhabit a human body, then is it not also possible for a human body to inhabit a different being? And if this is the case, then is there truly a point to identifying the basic nature of a soul to begin with? To say that you have the soul of a dragon (these seem to be very common) would imply that dragons themselves, presuming their existence, also can have souls from different species.

Therefore, then, there can be no identification of a soul as rooted to a specific species, becuase the very premise is circular. I do not deny that a person could theoretically have a soul which once inhabited the body of another being, but that would not make you that being in original essence. Indeed, there could be no original essence.

I am interested in how those of you who make this claim then justify it. I am open-minded, and willing to discuss in a rational fashion--don't think I simply reject your idea because I see a fallacy with it. Rather, I would like to see if there is an explanation for the fallacy, and if so, pursue your notion further.

It is an interesting one.

Callan

So far, the articles here have been a very good read. Originally I was directed here because my boyfriend is otherkin, but now I'm directed here because while I'm not otherkin, my "soul" is not completely normal and I'm having trouble finding others like me. I feel like I'm "broken" somehow or that I'm "missing something."

Anyway, if anyone else has ever felt the same way I would be very grateful if they could point me to some resources.

I think I am Otherkin, but I'm not sure...
by Amanda on 2004-01-17
I believe myself to be Otherkin, but as you said, there is no way to be sure. I have never felt right among humans, I always feel I should be elsewhere or I was incarnated as something I should not be. I have a split nature: one seems to be human or something similar. There is another that seems to be a female Phoenix, very righteous, feels all that I feel, and I can draw on her special energy. There is one other side, as well. He is an alpha male wolf. Very aggressive and feral, very hard to keep a handle on. Non-wolflike dogs either become aggressive or afraid around me unless they already knew me. Dogs that knew me already or have some quantity of wolf DNA obey me, and I receive unquestioning loyalty and friendship from them. In addition, I am told that I am pure energy; that my energy is at least triple normal levels, and I work with crystals. In addition, I am clairsentient and I can predict the future. Has anyone heard of this before? I am particularly interested in the Phoenix incarnation: she is impossible to keep a lock on. Her energy destroys and then renews. Very healing, but if you get me/her angry, or the wolf for that matter, they won't hesitate to attack. And their energy isn't picky; the wolf alone has the energy to wipe a few hundred people off the map with no effort. The Phoenix is even stronger!
If anyone can help me learn to live with my multiple sides, live among humans, I would be grateful. As I said, I believe that I am 'Kin, but I am not sure. I just know that I have been searching for my people for my entire life. Have i finally found them? Is this where I belong? Can anyone tell me? If so, please do; I want to find my place of belonging.

Most I know would ask me what i was smoking or ask if I was dealing with Lucifer. And I am definitely of the Light.
Most of us came to this site looking for a place where we can finally belong, or at least I did. So of course most of us are looking for help!

Empathic
by AC on 2004-02-25
I have the same experience.

Wow... that got me good.

I feel that also... I feel like i'm "broken" and "missing something".

Those words describe it well.

I also feel lost, and sad.

Well i've searched for a while and i think i'm kin,but i still might just be a person with some connection to fire.As far as seeing emotions go I can only feel some one else's if they're angry, which can be a real problem like others have where untaimed minds people can go on a rampage and can turn into pain unimaginable by normal people. Not to seem angry, but I hate when people call me a freak when I play with fire because it doesnt burn me or when i point out things that seemed to have no importance to anyone except me.

Am I Otherkin?
by Astamuen on 2004-03-19
Am I Otherkin? I always feel outside everything. Sometimes, I even find I really am outside everything! I can predict the future, can "hear" the elements (that is, I can sortof feel one "whispering" to me) but I don't like Earth all that much, I invent things which others have already found/created, and can find legends and stories in my head to do with times I should really have no memory of at all, have memories I think no, wait, how can I remember this? Acoording to this I was seventeen when this happened (which is way older than the five I was when I thought that), and when I was little I believed I was a unicorn to the point that if I think of it I can feel a horn and wings. Am I insane, have a way overactive imagination or Otherkin? Or maybe deluded?

Truth of 'Kin'
by Starlight-le Saint Mark on 2004-05-07
Being 'Kin' Isn't just a feeling. Its a realization. Many people say they are a leikin or Vampire or an animal of sorts, but they are mearly relating themselves to these creatures. Being 'Kin' is truely about self realization, and even then, that truely isn't the end. I am 'Kin'. I feel it in my heart, soul, and mind, but I've also taken it a step beyond that. Its something known as Mental Evolution. We can all achieve it, and it takens a great deal of time to complete the evolution into 'You'. Your spiritual essence takes its place in not just your heart, but in the entirely of your mind, leaving with you a mysterious feel. The body of which you inhabit will become strange, yet familiar. I have not yet completed my evolution, but its underway. I just hope this might help those who are trying to truely find out if they are 'Kin' or not. Just keep in mind that the evolution process is very straining, and sometimes painful.

I just got told I was an elf
by rosephoenix on 2004-06-14
I'm not trying to make anybody angry and I try to keep and open mind, but I wonder if maybe some people who think they are otherkin just feel the normal rejection that comes with life and look for an easy explanation.

I've felt like I don't belong before, and I've wondered if dragons and other creatures exist. I've even wanted to be the characters in the stories I read and write sometimes. I think everybody imagines what it would be like to be somebody else.

Maybe people are otherking. Heck, I just got told by my friend who says he's part dragon that he thinks I'm part elf. The thing is I don't know if that's true or not. All I know is I am who I am, and I try to be the best person I can be. For the most part I love myself, and I'm confident being me. I think that makes all the difference because it allows me to realize I have family who love me and even if I don't have a lot of them my friends love me too. It's like black or white. It's not about how you look or who your parents are or even if you're another species, it's about how you treat people and how you treat yourself. We're all "people" for lack of a better term.

However, I am asking you to trust yourself.

possible explanations
by wendy on 2004-09-28
Hello whoever is reading this : ) I stumbled accross this site, read the comments, questions and pleas for help and was struck by the terrible feelings of lostness out there . Before I go on ..I'm human , of that much i'm sure . I'm a little unusual , highly imaginative , much to sensitive and given to all sorts of odd thoughts but decidedly human for all that . I wonder if I may make a couple of points just for discussions sake ? First think about the number of people in the world (billions) now think about the number of different and distinct cultures , races and societies that exist at present , never mind in the past . Finally consider the fact that no one is really sure what the human brain is capable of or even what it is really doing most of the time (science has yet to find a satisfactory explanation for dreaming , though it knows we go mad without REM sleep )Given all of this is it possible that A, you are not as unusual as you think ?, there must be tens of thousands of people like you , B , You all belong to a section of humanity that is sensitive , creative , artistic and probably right brain driven ?+ c , the skills , tallents and energies you feel are unhuman are merly little understood and frequently dormant functions of the still evolving human brain ?
I realise that these will not be popular views but perhaps , at least for some of you , they may provide the beginings of an alternative answer , one that may bring some comfort to those of you who appear to be in such pain and doubt regarding your identity .Please feel free to argue , I will no doubt be back at some point : )

These people only want to understand what is going on themselves, not to be judged by others. You shouldn't judge those who you don't understand or what for that matter. People who nuture there otherkinly souls can unlock their memories and learn of their origin.

You might want to contact someone named Rialian he might be able to tell you.

something strange
by Eric on 2004-11-25
my name is Eric and i'd like to know if i'm otherkinly. If i am it would certainly make sense why i have a connection to the wind and feel something strange calling me. It keeps on calling me through the wind. it whispers to me on every breeze. It's like it's preparing me for something. It points out to next year, but I don't know why. in fact it was this thing that got me on this sight. I don't know call it fate, but it started out as trying to figure out who i am and i still am. It's all very confusing, but i rather me be crazy then this force be right.sorry for talking so much. i guess i had to tell somebody because my parents would've thought i'm crazy if i told them. Guess what? I'm only 14. crazy, huh?

Stay open
by K on 2005-03-02
Great information! This is a beautiful site, with a lot of truth, and some things I quite honestly didn’t know even after years of questing. I have always been a bit more traditional in my inner searches. I am new to the concept of Otherkin, but I have a lot of experience in spirituality. Since I see a lot of young people’s posts, I’d like to add a word from my own experience, advising them to stay open.

I think it is wise to avoid taking labels unless you are certain that those labels apply to you. A self-concept taken too quickly can limit you. It is better to say “I am…” and work from there. That is the way God introduced himself to Moses, and it seems to work for him anyway. (LOL) The truth is you are! You are anything and everything as long as you are willing to accept that. You can do and be whatever you like as long as you can fully believe that, so choose wisely. We of course have some things about us that are undeniable, but it is best to let even those come to the surface gradually. A label can lead to the formation of ego and shadow, especially if it is not the absolute, and undeniable truth. Like when parents apply the term, good girl, or good boy, towards their children. There is always a little voice (shadow) in that kid that says… no I was a bad boy the other day, so I am really a bad boy and I have to hide that fact and keep up appearances (ego) as a good boy. The fact is children are both… and neither. They serve their own best interest, and they can decide to serve others, but concepts and labels can limit their ability to do that.

It is good to know what you are, and what you can do, but that takes a long period of exploration. Occasionally a sudden revelation will come after much exploration and study. I think if you are wondering if you are otherkin, you probably have some things in common with those who describe themselves as Otherkin, but I am equally sure that the people who designed this site have put a lot of self analysis and study into who they are, and built this site with much self examination.

Actually there are words in every culture, tradition, and religion for different kinds of gifted people. It is a matter of what explanation(s) you choose for your individual nature, if any. I think it would be safer especially for young people to realize that they are individual, and that they are spiritually gifted in whatever ways they are. Further recognize that you can develop your spirituality with time and work. You can become what you believe you are, so again accept labels carefully.

It is only natural when looking at this wonderful site, to want to be Otherkin. I felt that pull myself, because we all want an easy explanation for what we are, especially if we feel we are different, because we feel things and see things differently from the norm. What ever you do don’t take psychological and its evil twin psychiatry too seriously. They label everything as a disease, and we spiritual people are not diseased. We are just open. People have doors in their minds, and some people’s doors are closed, while others are open. Spiritual people are just open, but the wise ones are still cautious what we let in. Most have some doors open and others closed. I was born with the doors open, and I have kept them open. The responsibility that comes with having our doors open, is that we are still discerning in what we let in. There are better ways to keep yourself clean than locked doors.

I think this site has much useful information to help us explore who we are, and we should exhaust this information completely, and examine it for what it is. It is very well designed and put together. There is a lot of truth behind the core of this information, and we can explore, and perhaps try on some of these labels, without locking ourselves in, then perhaps in time we will find these things are either true of us or not. In any case it is a wonderful tool for exploration, and that is what spiritual life is.

While the writer of the article is obviously earnest and intelligent, most of the comments about it seem to have been made by...immature people with ill thought out, poorly communicated questions/comments.

Are there 'elders' among the Otherkin? Those who are wise and respected, teachers, or those who have life experience to impart to the young?

Most of these messages appear, to an outsider, to be angst filled fantasy, or a clique wherein difficulties or non-acceptance in society proves 'otherness'.

These issues make the Otherkin community as a whole seem like an internet fad, or a social club for young people who need to belong to something.

Are there any writings (in PRINT, not internet based) on this topic, or people who have known themselves to be Otherkin for a long while, or any persons over the age of 25 calling themselves Otherkin?

I truly mean no disrespect, but these are the kinds of things people say about your community. I would be happy to hear other viewpoints or thoughts (expressed in an adult manner) regarding the history of Otherkin, if any.

Ill thought out comments: that's par for the course, online in general not just in the otherkin community.

Elders: there are some, though much of the otherkin community seem to have an almost pathelogical aversion to anyone actually claiming the label.

Writing in print: there's a few now. (See the recommended reading section).

People who've been otherkin for a while: The site admins are all over 30 and have been aware for at least a decade (more in some cases). There are otherkin in their late 50s.
